Perhaps you keep arguing about the same thing, avoid certain subjects, or no longer know how to talk without each of you defending your own version. In therapy we can look at what happens between you and what you want to do with it.
Couples therapy is not a courtroom or a place to decide who is right. It is a space to notice what happens between you when you try to get closer, ask for something, protect yourselves, or resolve a difference. And to understand more clearly what each of you needs and what the relationship needs.
Conflicts repeat without resolution. You feel like you talk but don't listen to each other.
You live together, but the emotional connection has cooled. You feel lonely within the relationship.
Important conversations end in blame, silence, or slamming doors.
An infidelity, a lie, or a situation that broke trust. You want to know if rebuilding is possible.
You don't know whether to stay together or go your separate ways. You need clarity.
You're not in crisis, but you feel things could be better. You want to invest in your relationship.
In Gestalt couples therapy, I don't look for who's right. I work with what happens between you: how you communicate, how you listen, what you need, and what patterns keep repeating.
You do not need to arrive agreeing on what is happening. I want to hear both experiences without turning the session into a distribution of blame.
What one of you does when the other pulls away. What happens just before the usual argument. And how, almost without noticing, you end up in the same place again.
The past can help us understand, but we also notice how you speak, interrupt, protect yourselves, or stop listening to one another during the session itself.
Pause before answering. Make a request without turning it into a reproach. Hear something without preparing a defence. We try and see what happens; there is no formula that works in the same way for every couple.
What happens just before it, what each of you is trying to achieve, and how a conversation becomes the same fight again.
Because needing closeness and asking for it as a reproach do not usually produce exactly the same result.
One insists. The other closes down. One moves away. The other pursues. We look at what this protection does and what it is costing you.
Stay together, change how you are together, or separate. I can help you bring clarity to that decision, but I cannot make it for you.
You do not need to arrive with a shared version or a decision already made. We can meet, hear what each of you brings, and see whether starting with me feels right.
